THE Biblical story of the Tower of Babel could be proved to be true after ancient remains were discovered in Iraq, an Amazon Prime documentary has claimed.
Amazon Prime’s Bible Conspiracy says ruins uncovered at a site in Borsippa have similarities to the tale.
In the Book of Genesis people, generations after the Great Flood, all spoke the same language and migrated eastwards to Shinar where they agreed to build a tower tall enough to reach heaven.
When God discovered their plan he made everyone speak different languages so they could not communicate with each other, causing the plan to be dropped and people dispersed around the world.
The documentary states: “The Tower of Babel was said to be a myth by many scholars.
“However, a series of cylinders were found in Borsippa which pieced together a huge tower.
“These may be part of the Tower of Babel due to their sheer size and evidence of burned stonework.”
The presenter continues: “Many believe the tower was destroyed by God, but the text actually tells us it was a strange race, referred to as the Anunnaki.”
It is not the first time the Biblical tower has been connected with actual structures.
Academics have indicated the Etemenanki ziggurat, dedicated to the god Marduk by Nabopolassar, who ruled Babylonia in around 610BC, could be the origin of the story.
The building, which is said to have stood 300ft hjgh was eventually destroyed by Alexander the Great in 331BC.

So far the Amazon Prime series has proved to be controversial.
Recently it examined the claim that Jesus Christ “was Greek not Jewish”.
The doc’s claim suggests a Greek man named Apollonius may have been the true face behind the New Testament.
