Gaskell, 24, was jailed for six years in August after admitting gross negligence manslaughter at his Hull home on February 27.

A fortnight later brothers Dean and Daniel Huteson armed themselves with makeshift weapons, including a Hoover pipe, while Dean, 26, started two fires on the ground floor of a block of flats in a bid to scare off the builder.

Mitigating at the brothers’ sentencing hearing at Hull Crown Court on, Dean Huteson’s barrister, Becky Jane, said: “Five months prior to this incident his sister was stabbed and killed.

“He tells me he was very close to his sister. She was his younger sister – 21 at the time – and as a result of it he went off the track, in his words. He used drugs and alcohol in an attempt to cope.”

Daniel Huteson, 20, had been beaten up in prison and “stamped on” because of attempted theft and vandalism, his barrister Imran Khan said.

The two brothers and accomplice Jordan Rodriguies had made off with £2,600 worth of tools before they were tracked down by the builder, as Dean Huteson was seen starting a fire in the entrance to the flats, the Hull Daily Mail reports.

Dean Huteson, of Ladyside Close, Bransholme, admitted affray, attempted arson being reckless as to whether life was endangered, and handling stolen goods.

He had 15 previous offences on his record, including attempted arson, and was jailed for 25 months.

Daniel Huteson, of Wimbourne Close, Bransholme, and Rodriguies, 25, of Ladyside Close, admitted affray and handling stolen goods.

Daniel Huteson had committed 21 previous offences, including possessing an offensive weapon at a school, possessing an air weapon, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and was sentenced to 18 months detention.

Rodriguies failed to attend court and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Sentencing, Judge Paul Watson QC told them: “The two of you were completely out of control, running amok, ripping signs from the display board and waving bits of metal around in a particularly threatening manner.

“It was a bad offence, aggravated in your case, Dean Huteson, by fire setting.”
