The property, called Kingsdown Place, boasts four bedrooms, a large kitchen/dining rooms, a drawing room, an office, and a loft suite with another bedroom and bathroom.

The property also features a World War Two gun emplacement on the grounds and has been decked over with Japanese style arbour.

The large detached house used to serve as the west wing of the old village manor house until it was divided up in the 1990s.

The drawing room, which is the original ballroom for the old manor house, and master bedroom look out over the sea while there is also roof balcony.

It has half-an-acre of grounds that are a mix in styles between an English country garden, the French Riviera and a Japanese garden.

A spokesman for estate agents Marshall & Clarke said: “This is a wonderful opportunity to acquire one of the most impressive houses in the area.

“The house has its own separate gated drive leading off the main at the front and steps at the end of the terrace lead down to a deck and lawn overlooking the Channel at the back.

“It is a beautiful property in a great setting. From Kingsdown you can see France quite clearly.”

The property was built in early 1800s by wealthy farmer William Curling and his wife Elizabeth.

They generously also donated large sums of money for the building of Kingsdown village church, rectory, village hall and school.

In 1934 the house and gardens became a seaside holiday village and in the 1990s the house was sold off separately and divided into four separate dwellings. Kingsdown Place is one of the larger of the four.
